We are all familiar with emotions. Moods. Feelings. As human beings, we are emotional beings. We are designed to experience emotions. Specific structures in the brain are designed to generate emotions for us. Well known structures of the brain, such as the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, and the structures that make up the basal ganglia (including the caudate, putamen, and globus pallidus), and others, are together referred to as the limbic system. This system is responsible for generating our experience of emotions.
