Strategies for improving memory

- www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2zUIw1ESbE - A brief YouTube video description of how to use the method of loci technique. This video is very easy to understand. The technique takes a bit of time and energy to learn and practice, but becomes easier and more useful with practice.

- Part 1: Learning How to Memorize - Top 6 Memorization Techniques: This is a very good article discussing several memorization techniques. I particularly like the way he describes assigning numbers to specific corners/walls in familiar rooms.

Mindfulness

 - Introduction to Mindful Awareness - This is an excellent introductory video to mindfulness; the best place (that I have found so far) to start for those who have not yet heard or read about mindfulness. It is also found on the UCLA website linked below, in their video gallery.
- www.marc.ucla.edu - The UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center - another excellent mindfulness resource. I find particularly helpful their Free Guided Meditations and the Weekly Podcasts at the Hammer. The videos discussing the research going on with mindfulness meditation are also very fascinating.

- www.palousemindfulness.com - Dave Potter is an instructor of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). He has done an excellent job, in my opinion, organizing a ton of great information about MBSR on his website. Included in this FREE 8-week program are wonderful videos, readings, and daily practices. These help you to learn how to practice mindfulness and then apply it for different purposes, such as dealing with stress, dealing with difficult thoughts, dealing with difficult emotions, cultivating compassion, and even dealing with physical pain. The ultimate goal, however, is not just "doing" mindfulness, but rather "being" more mindful in all areas of life. Mindfulness, being mindful, sounds simple enough, but it is very tricky; time, patience, and persistence are needed to improve this skill. I highly recommend this site, and encourage anyone who is interested to be sure to work through all of the 8 weeks to get the greatest benefit.

- Mrs. Mindfulness - a blog about all things mindfulness.

The Dementias (now called Major Neurocognitive Disorders)

- www.alz.org - Website of the Alzheimer's Association. This is a really, really good resource for anyone affected by this terrible disease. Explore their website to find information about the disease itself, and ideas on how to deal with the many challenges that are part of this disease process.

- www.theaftd.org - Website of The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration. A wonderful resource for this less well-known, but equally devastating disease.

- www.lbda.org - Website of Lewy Body Dementia Association.

Concussion

- rethinkconcussions.com - A website created by the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program containing much interesting and useful information about concussions (including non-sports-related concussions).

- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) HEADS UP - The CDC's website containing comprehensive information about head injuries, particularly those involving youth and sports. Information for both patients, parents, coaches, healthcare providers, and others.
